The Carbonic Safety Advantage
Traditional Liquid Muriatic Acid
Highly aggressive and volatile. Requires constant handling, precise dilution (4:1), and introduces corrosive fumes to the equipment room, threatening electrical components and bather safety.
Strips pH and Total Alkalinity at once - each dose a manual judgment call.
Eco-Friendly CO2 Injection
Delivered with molecular precision. When dissolved, CO2 forms a mild, self-limiting carbonic acid. It gently softens the water and naturally contains pH without the risk of an acid overshoot.
The physics is Henry's Law: gas is micro-injected into the return line under pressure, and natural off-gassing at the pool surface means pH can never be driven dangerously low.

The Science of the Alkalinity Catch
When advanced salt-chlorine generators purify your water, they naturally release basic hydroxide byproducts (sodium and calcium hydroxide) that steadily drive the water's pH and Total Alkalinity (TA) upward. While traditional, harsh liquid acid forcefully strips away both pH and Total Alkalinity simultaneously, carbon dioxide gas is chemically selective - the hydrogen ions it releases lower pH safely but leave your Total Alkalinity buffer completely intact. Because the buffer is never consumed by the gas, the hydroxides left behind by daily chlorination gradually accumulate, resulting in a slow, natural creep in your Total Alkalinity over time. Nitrogen compounds from bather load (combined chlorine, incomplete oxidation) accelerate the creep.

In outdoor pools with stabilizer, raw Total Alkalinity readings overstate the real buffer. Gedney applies the cyanurate correction - subtracting roughly one-third of the cyanuric acid level - to compute the true saturation index. Skipping this correction is why ordinary service companies drift out of balance.
